Addis Ababa, (Horn post) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held high-level talks in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos, reaffirming the depth of China–Ethiopia strategic relations and Beijing’s continued engagement in the Horn of Africa.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Wang Yi conveyed a message from China’s leadership underscoring Beijing’s commitment to sustained development support, investment, and economic cooperation with Ethiopia. The two sides discussed the implementation of major infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), as well as broader regional peace and stability issues.
Prime Minister Abiy welcomed China’s continued role in Ethiopia’s development, describing the bilateral relationship as one built on mutual trust, shared interests, and respect for sovereignty.
In separate talks with Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos, Wang Yi reviewed the state of China–Ethiopia relations and pledged to further strengthen cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels. Both ministers emphasized coordination through frameworks such as the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and collaboration on peace and development initiatives in the Horn of Africa.
Wang Yi’s Addis Ababa engagements highlight Ethiopia’s position as a strategic partner for China in Africa, with the visit reflecting Beijing’s broader diplomatic push to consolidate long-term partnerships across the continent.
