MOGADISHU, Somalia — (Horn post) The United States has called on Somali political leaders and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could trigger violence or deepen instability in Somalia amid growing political tensions.
In a statement, the U.S. government emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful engagement to preserve stability and national unity in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Washington urged all sides to prioritize constructive political discussions and refrain from measures that could escalate tensions or undermine ongoing efforts toward peace and state-building.
International Community Expresses Concern
Meanwhile, members of the international community also voiced concern over the political situation in Somalia, calling on the Federal Government and opposition groups to begin meaningful and inclusive dialogue.
The joint statement was issued by Austria, Belgium, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations.
The international partners stressed the need for consensus-building and cooperation to safeguard Somalia’s political stability and democratic progress.
Focus on Stability and Dialogue
The statements come at a sensitive time for Somalia as political debates intensify over governance, constitutional matters, and the country’s broader security and electoral landscape.
International observers say sustained dialogue between Somali leaders and opposition groups will be critical in preventing further political polarization and maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa.
