HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) Somaliland’s Deputy Minister of Health Development chaired a high-level government meeting on Saturday bringing together multiple ministries and state institutions to strengthen national preparedness against regional health threats, particularly the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
The meeting focused on enhancing intergovernmental coordination and reinforcing Somaliland’s national emergency health response systems amid growing concerns over infectious disease outbreaks in the Horn of Africa region.
Following hours of deliberations, officials announced several key resolutions aimed at improving preparedness and rapid response capabilities.
Among the major decisions was the establishment of a High-Level Multi-Sectoral Task Force composed of relevant government institutions to lead national preparedness efforts and coordinate prevention measures against public health emergencies.
Participants also agreed to maintain regular consultation and coordination meetings among government agencies to strengthen Somaliland’s public health systems and improve emergency response readiness.
In addition, Somaliland’s Ministry of Health Development announced the formation of a Technical Task Force that will oversee planning, preparedness and implementation of technical activities related to emergency health situations.
The meeting reflects Somaliland’s broader efforts to reinforce disease surveillance, emergency response coordination and regional health security as neighboring countries continue monitoring Ebola outbreaks.
