MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Post) – Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday received Nadia Mohamed, the Somali-American mayor of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, at Villa Somalia, praising her political achievements and highlighting the growing role of the Somali diaspora in strengthening ties between Somalia and the United States.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the meeting focused on expanding bilateral engagement, encouraging diaspora investment and promoting Somalia’s ongoing development efforts.
President Hassan Sheikh congratulated Mayor Mohamed on her accomplishments in American politics, describing her election as a reflection of the talent, determination and positive contributions of Somalis living abroad.
The president emphasized that successful Somali diaspora leaders can play a vital role in enhancing the long-standing relationship between Somalia and the United States while supporting reconstruction, economic development and public service delivery in Somalia.
He also encouraged Mayor Mohamed to continue promoting stronger cooperation between the two countries and to mobilize greater diaspora participation in investment and national development initiatives.
“Your achievements demonstrate the capability and leadership of Somalis around the world, and the diaspora has an important role to play in strengthening Somalia’s development and international partnerships,” President Hassan Sheikh said, according to Villa Somalia.
Mayor Nadia Mohamed thanked the president for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to fostering closer cooperation between Somalia and the United States.
She also expressed her willingness to support initiatives that promote investment, development and stronger engagement with the Somali diaspora.
During the meeting, Mohamed noted that she was impressed by the level of security improvements and development she witnessed in Mogadishu during her visit.
“I am committed to strengthening cooperation and supporting efforts that contribute to Somalia’s continued progress,” Mayor Mohamed said, adding that the city’s security and development had exceeded her expectations.
Mayor Mohamed recently arrived in Mogadishu for a visit aimed at reconnecting with her country of origin and exploring opportunities to deepen engagement between Somalia and its diaspora communities abroad.
Analysis
