Dubai (Horn post) Dubai-based global ports operator DP World has confirmed that its operations at Berbera Port in the Republic of Somaliland are continuing as planned, despite statements issued by Somalia.
According to a report by Reuters, DP World said it remains focused on ensuring security, operational efficiency, and the smooth functioning of Berbera Port, while advancing economic development and trade facilitation in Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa.
The company emphasized that it is not paying attention to claims or remarks coming from Somalia regarding the port.
DP World has invested approximately USD 442 million in the modernization and expansion of Berbera Port. The investment is part of a long-term agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Somaliland and DP World, aimed at transforming Berbera into a strategic regional trade hub.
The Berbera Port project is also viewed as a key pillar of the strong partnership and longstanding friendly relations between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates.
