JERUSALEM (Horn post) President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro of the Republic of Somaliland continued his historic official visit to Israel on Sunday by touring some of Israel’s most important historical and national landmarks, underscoring growing diplomatic relations between the two sides.
As part of the first day of his state visit, President Irro and his delegation visited Mount Herzl, one of Israel’s most significant national sites located in western Jerusalem.
During the visit, President Irro laid a ceremonial wreath in recognition of the site’s historic importance. Mount Herzl serves as the burial place of Theodor Herzl, widely recognized as the founder of modern Zionism, and is also the resting place of several former Israeli presidents, prime ministers and prominent national leaders.
The Somaliland delegation was officially received at the site by Yaakov Hagoel, Chairman of the World Zionist Organization.
President Irro also paid an official visit to Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, where he was welcomed by Chairman Dani Dayan.
During the visit, the Somaliland President received a briefing on the history of the Holocaust, widely regarded as one of the most devastating genocides of the twentieth century and a defining chapter in modern world history.
As part of the day’s diplomatic program, President Irro later visited the Groves of Nations, where he planted a commemorative tree symbolizing friendship, cooperation and the strengthening relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
Officials said the tree planting ceremony was intended to serve as a lasting symbol of mutual respect and the shared commitment of both governments to expanding diplomatic ties and long-term cooperation.
The visit is increasingly being viewed as a major milestone in Somaliland’s international diplomacy efforts as relations between Hargeisa and Israel continue to deepen.
