
PARIS, France (Horn post) Delegation from the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of the Republic of Somaliland and the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP) held a key meeting in France aimed at strengthening cooperation in the preservation, documentation and promotion of Somaliland’s archaeological and historical heritage.
The meeting, hosted at INRAP headquarters, brought together senior officials from both institutions to discuss collaborative initiatives focused on protecting Somaliland’s ancient sites and expanding research opportunities in the field of cultural heritage.
The Somaliland delegation included Aydarus Ismail, Director of the Tourism and Antiquities Department; Ridwan Abdirashid Sheikh, Director of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Trade and Tourism; and Khalid, Local Coordinator for Expertise France.
Representing INRAP were Dominique Garcia, President of the institute, and Kai Salas Rossenbach, Deputy President of INRAP.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the preservation, conservation and documentation of Somaliland’s archaeological resources, while also exploring opportunities for joint research, professional training and knowledge exchange related to historical and cultural heritage management.
Both sides emphasized the importance of safeguarding archaeological sites and promoting scientific research that contributes to a deeper understanding of Somaliland’s rich historical legacy.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to strengthen collaboration and pursue future initiatives in heritage preservation, archaeological research and capacity building.
Officials also acknowledged the significant role played by Expertise France in organizing and facilitating the discussions.
