HARGEISA, Somaliland — (Horn post) Former Somaliland National Army Commander General Nuh Ismail Tani said the people of Somaliland are prepared to defend the country’s political achievements and ongoing efforts toward international recognition.
Speaking at a public event, General Tani praised Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro for what he described as opening the “door to recognition” that had long remained closed to Somaliland.
“Mr. President, you have opened the door of recognition that was closed to us, and we will defend it,” Tani said.
The former military commander said Somaliland citizens and national leaders stand firmly behind the government’s diplomatic initiatives and recognition campaign.
The former military commander Tani also stated that communities in the Gabiley region fully support the Somaliland administration and President Irro, adding that they remain committed to protecting the country’s unity, stability and development.
Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, continues to seek broader international recognition while strengthening diplomatic engagement abroad.
