Borama, (Horn Post) – The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, on Tuesday undertook an official working visit to Awdal Region, leading a large high-level delegation to the regional capital, Borama.
The Vice President and his delegation were first received at the boundary of Gabiley Region, where they were warmly welcomed by the Gabiley regional administration, district officials, traditional elders, and other senior government representatives. Following the reception, the delegation was formally escorted onward toward Awdal Region and Borama city.
En route, the Vice President made a stop in Dila District, where he received an exceptionally warm public Residents welcomed him with green branches, a traditional symbol of peace and goodwill, as he walked through the town accompanied by local leaders and members of the public.
Addressing a large gathering at Khayriyadda Square in Dila, Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi delivered a keynote speech, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming reception and addressing recent developments in Awdal Region.
“I would like to sincerely thank you for the warm welcome you have extended to us,” the Vice President said. “I was away when the unfortunate incident occurred in Borama, and I was deeply saddened and troubled by what happened. I want to share that feeling with you today.”
The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, stressed the central importance of peace and security, particularly in the context of Somaliland’s political aspirations.
“When Allah created life, the first thing He established was security,” he said. “People of Awdal, I strongly urge you to safeguard peace and stability.”
The Vice President also highlighted Somaliland’s long-standing quest for international recognition, noting that the current moment represents a critical opportunity.
“Somaliland has waited 35 years for recognition. Today, that opportunity has arrived, and we must take full advantage of it,” he stated.
After concluding his remarks in Dila, the Vice President and his delegation continued their journey to Borama. Upon arrival, they were received at the city’s landmark Book Monument, where thousands of residents gathered to welcome the delegation with enthusiasm and open support.
The visit forms part of the Vice President’s broader outreach and consultation efforts, aimed at strengthening national unity, promoting peace, and engaging directly with communities across Somaliland’s regions.
