
WASHINGTON (Horn post) U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Saturday that American authorities have detained Khamida Soleimani Afshar, the niece of the late Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Iraq in 2020.
According to Rubio, Afshar, who held U.S. permanent residency (Green Card), had been living in the United States and reportedly voiced criticisms of the U.S. government in support of Iran. U.S. officials said her detention follows a security review, and her permanent residency has been revoked.
Authorities also confirmed that Afshar’s daughter will be deported alongside her. The announcement underscores ongoing U.S. efforts to monitor individuals linked to foreign state actors deemed a security concern.
