Washington (Horn Post) – The United States has captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in a high-risk military operation, according to statements from U.S. officials and former President Donald Trump.
U.S. military forces reportedly neutralized Venezuela’s air defense systems and fully isolated Maduro’s residence in Caracas early Tuesday. General Caine said the operation began at 01:01 Eastern Time, when U.S. forces reached the building. Helicopters reportedly came under gunfire, to which U.S. troops responded with “overwhelming force.” One helicopter was hit, but all aircraft returned safely to base.
By 03:29 Eastern Time, Maduro and his wife had surrendered to U.S. authorities and were taken aboard the USS Iwo Jima. Trump confirmed that the United States will administer Venezuela temporarily until a “secure, orderly, and wise transition of power” can be arranged.
Trump described the mission as an attack on a “heavily fortified military stronghold” in Caracas aimed at bringing Maduro to justice. He compared the operation to previous U.S. military actions targeting strategic locations in Iran, including nuclear sites. He also stated that Venezuelan military capabilities were neutralized during the raid and that city lights in Caracas were turned off “due to special U.S. expertise” during the operation.
Both Maduro and his wife now face charges in southern New York related to their alleged deadly drug-terror campaigns targeting Americans and U.S. citizens abroad. Trump said he personally witnessed the capture and praised the troops for executing “an extraordinary operation that no other country could carry out.”
Following the operation, Maduro and his wife are being transported to New York via helicopter and ship to face legal proceedings. Trump condemned their alleged actions, stating, “They have killed many people, including numerous Americans, even on their own soil.”
