SMETHWICK (Horn post) An 18-year-old man has died after being stabbed outside a mosque in Smethwick, in the West Midlands, UK, police have confirmed.
According to the West Midlands Police, the incident occurred shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday outside a building on Oldbury Road. Two other men, aged 19 and 20, were also injured during the disturbance and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The victim was later named Zeshan Afzal, from Smethwick. Police confirmed on Saturday afternoon that a murder investigation is underway.
Authorities said the injuries sustained by the two other men are not believed to be life-threatening. Police have also stressed that the incident is not being treated as religiously or racially motivated.
Officers said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Additional police patrols are expected to remain in the area to reassure residents.
