Somaliland President Awards Top Performers in National Ramadan Qur’an Competition. +Pictures

HARGEISA (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), on Wednesday presented high-value awards to students who secured top positions in the annual Presidential Qur’an Recitation Competition held during the holy month of Ramadan.

The award ceremony took place at the Somaliland Presidential Palace following the conclusion of the nationwide competition, which brought together young male and female memorizers of the Holy Qur’an from across the country’s regions. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, senior religious scholars, and teachers who mentored the participating students.

In the boys’ category, first place was awarded to Abdillahi Jama Salah from Sanag region, who received a new car as the top prize. Second place went to Hamza Abdirahman Salah from Marodi-Jex, while third place was secured by Abdirisaq Ahmed Jama from Togdher region, with each receiving various awards in recognition of their performance.

In the girls’ category, held for the second consecutive year, first place was won by Rayaan Hussein Ahmed from Awdal region, who received a gold award. Asha Adan Duale from Marodi-Jeh placed second, while Bushra Abdi Ali from Awdal secured third place, with all recipients receiving valuable prizes.

Additionally, President Irro awarded fully sponsored Umrah pilgrimages to the supervisors of the first-place male and female students, recognizing their role in guiding and preparing the competitors.

The Presidential Qur’an Competition is held annually during Ramadan and aims to promote Qur’anic education, encourage youth participation, and recognize excellence in religious scholarship across Somaliland.
