Speaking after Eid al-Adha prayers at the Grand Mosque in Hargeisa, the Somaliland president delivered a national address focused on unity, peace, security and the self-declared republic’s sovereignty.
Irro called on Somaliland citizens to strengthen social cohesion, preserve peace and work together to safeguard national stability and security.

During the address, the president also commented on regional political tensions involving Somalia and Djibouti, accusing both countries of actions he described as interference in Somaliland’s internal affairs.
“Many countries have shown hostility toward Somaliland, yet we have not harmed anyone,” Irro said. “Somaliland’s foreign policy is based on good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, especially with neighboring countries such as Djibouti and Somalia.”
He urged both governments to “respect peace, neighborly relations and mutual respect between neighboring states.”
In remarks directed at Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Irro warned against what he described as attempts to mobilize foreign governments against Somaliland.
“If you bring other countries against us, Somaliland is not alone, and we are capable of defending ourselves,” the Somaliland president said, according to remarks at the Grand Mosque in Hargeisa
The comments come amid ongoing political tensions between Somaliland and Somalia over sovereignty, regional diplomacy and international recognition.
