
HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) The Minister of Information, Culture and National Guidance of the Republic of Somaliland, Barkhad Jama Batun accompanied by the Deputy Minister and the Director General of the Ministry, on Saturday chaired the Ministry’s regular weekly meeting of department directors at the Minister’s office in Hargeisa.
The meeting focused on key ministry priorities and major operational plans currently underway, with senior officials reviewing progress on strategic communication and upcoming national programs.
Among the major topics discussed was the recently concluded official visit by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro to Israel, which government officials described as a successful diplomatic mission. The ministry reviewed its visible role in media coordination, public awareness campaigns, and the dissemination of information surrounding the high-profile visit.
The meeting also focused heavily on preparations for June 26 Independence Day celebrations, marking the 66th anniversary of Somaliland’s independence. Officials directed Somaliland National Television, Radio Hargeisa, and the Ministry’s cultural department to begin broadcasting special programs, patriotic content, and cultural productions reflecting the historical significance and national value of the annual independence commemoration.
In addition, department directors were informed that a comprehensive review and performance evaluation will be conducted to assess the Ministry’s achievements during the first six months of 2026, measuring progress against institutional goals and implementation targets.
The leadership meeting further addressed accelerating the implementation of the government’s National Communication and Public Information Program, an initiative aimed at strengthening coordination and improving communication between state institutions and the public.
Concluding the meeting, the Minister instructed department directors to intensify their efforts and work collectively toward achieving the Ministry’s strategic objectives for 2026.
