Washington D.C. – October 2025 (Hornpost) Mubarak Ismail Tani, the former Chief of Staff in the Office of the President of the Republic of Somaliland, held a meeting in Washington D.C. with Prof. Tibor Nagy, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.
Prof. Nagy, who also served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia and Guinea, discussed regional developments and reaffirmed his longstanding support for the sovereignty and democratic achievements of the Republic of Somaliland.
During the meeting, Mubarak Tani expressed gratitude to Prof. Nagy for his consistent advocacy in support of Somaliland’s right to self-determination and international recognition.
Prof. Nagy, for his part, commended Somaliland’s continued commitment to democracy and good governance, noting the country’s peaceful political transitions as a model in the region.
In a related development, Prof. Tibor Nagy also held a telephone conversation with former President Muse Bihi Abdi, during which he praised the former leader for his statesmanship and leadership, particularly in overseeing multiple successful elections and the smooth transfer of power.
Former President Muse Bihi Abdi, in turn, thanked Prof. Nagy for his tireless efforts and principled support for Somaliland’s quest for independence, emphasizing that the people of Somaliland will long remember his contributions to their national cause.
