HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) The former mayor of Hargeisa said serving the people and the country was the greatest honor of his career, as Somaliland’s Auditor General announced that an investigation found no outstanding debt within the Hargeisa Municipality.
“After serving you for five years, leadership is a trust, and there is no greater honor than serving one’s people and country. Today, I leave office by returning the trust you placed in me,” the former mayor of Hargeisa said during remarks marking the handover of leadership at the capital’s local government administration.
The statement came as Somaliland’s Auditor General disclosed the findings of a financial review into the municipality’s administration.
“We conducted an investigation into the local government, and we did not find any debt,” the Auditor General of the Republic of Somaliland said, describing the results of the audit into the Hargeisa municipal administration.
The remarks are likely to bolster the outgoing administration’s record following years of infrastructure expansion and municipal development projects across the Somaliland capital.
The transition in Hargeisa’s leadership comes amid broader efforts by Somaliland authorities to strengthen transparency, accountability and public sector governance.
