MOGADISHU, Somalia — (Horn post) The Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced the arrest of Abdikerm Eidleh in Somalia, identifying him as a central figure in one of the largest fraud scandals in recent U.S. history involving the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars intended to feed vulnerable Americans.
According to U.S. federal authorities, Eidleh allegedly orchestrated a massive $250 million fraud scheme connected to the controversial Feeding Our Future scandal, a case prosecutors say diverted critical food assistance funds away from children and families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The FBI confirmed that Eidleh was apprehended in Somalia following what officials described as a coordinated international law enforcement operation carried out with multiple partner agencies.
In a statement released following the arrest, the FBI accused Eidleh of leading a criminal enterprise that exploited one of America’s largest pandemic-era food assistance programs.
“Abdikerm Eidleh was an alleged ringleader of one of the largest fraud scandals in the history of this country, orchestrating a massive $250 million scheme to steal critical food resources from vulnerable Americans who needed it,” the FBI said.
Luxury Cars and Mansions Purchased With Stolen Funds
Federal investigators said the fraud network allegedly used stolen government funds to finance extravagant lifestyles, purchasing luxury vehicles, expensive real estate, and other high-value assets instead of delivering food aid to intended beneficiaries.
Authorities described the case as one of the most brazen examples of pandemic-related financial fraud uncovered in the United States.
“The money was spent on luxury cars and mansions — as shameless as it gets,” the FBI said.
FBI Says More Than 70 Suspects Arrested in Expanding Corruption Investigation
The arrest marks another major breakthrough in the sprawling federal investigation into the Feeding Our Future corruption network, which prosecutors say involved a sophisticated system of fake meal claims, fraudulent reimbursements, and organized financial theft.
To date, the FBI says it has dismantled much of the criminal network and arrested more than 70 individuals connected to the case.
Officials said the investigation remains active and further arrests could follow as authorities continue tracking financial crimes linked to the scheme.
“Thanks to a brilliant operation by the FBI and our law enforcement partners, he was located in Somalia and will now face justice,” the agency stated.
U.S. Authorities Vow Continued Crackdown on Fraud
Federal authorities said the case sends a clear warning that financial crimes targeting vulnerable communities will be aggressively prosecuted, regardless of where suspects attempt to hide.
The FBI reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing corruption investigations nationwide.
“We will continue working every single day to wipe out fraud across the country,” the FBI said.
The Feeding Our Future case has become one of the largest fraud prosecutions tied to U.S. pandemic relief programs, exposing major weaknesses in emergency aid oversight and triggering nationwide scrutiny over public fund accountability.
