MOGADISHU, Somalia (HornPost) Somalia’s Supreme Court has validated the results of the September 30 by-election for the Galmudug State House of Representatives, formally approving the outcome submitted by the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
In a ruling dated October 13, the court said it had reviewed the electoral commission’s submission and confirmed the results of the by-election held on September 30, 2026.
The decision was issued by the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Somalia following its examination of the election results and related documentation.
Caddaaladda iyo Wadajirka Wins 67 Seats
The certified results show that the Caddaaladda iyo Wadajirka political association won 67 of the 89 seats contested, accounting for approximately 75.28% of the seats in the Galmudug State House of Representatives.
The Sincad association secured seven seats, while Karaama won six seats.
Other political associations also obtained representation in the regional legislature, according to the results included in the court documents.

- Ballots cast: 149,475
- Valid votes: 146,374
- Invalid votes: 3,101
- Total seats: 89
The valid votes represented 97.93% of the ballots cast, while invalid votes accounted for 2.07%.
Legal Basis for the Decision
The court cited Article 73 of the Somali Electoral Law, Law No. 28 of November 23, 2024, in its consideration of the election results.
The ruling also refers to the legal provisions governing the electoral commission’s authority to administer elections and submit certified results for judicial review.
By approving the submitted results, the Supreme Court completed the judicial validation stage reflected in the decision.
What the Ruling Means for Galmudug
The court’s decision provides formal judicial validation of the September 30 election results and establishes the certified distribution of seats in the Galmudug State House of Representatives.
The outcome gives Caddaaladda iyo Wadajirka the largest representation in the 89-seat legislature, with 67 seats, according to the court-certified figures.
The ruling does not, by itself, provide details about the timing of the legislature’s next sitting, the election of its leadership or the formation of any subsequent political arrangements. Those developments would require separate official announcements.
The decision marks a significant procedural step in finalising the by-election results and determining the composition of Galmudug’s regional legislature.
