
BORAMA, Somaliland — (Horn Post) The Awdal diaspora community based in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia in the United States has honored Borama District Mayor Mahmoud Sheikh Ibrahim Muse with an award recognizing his leadership and development efforts in the city in north of Somaliland.
Members of the diaspora presented the certificate of appreciation during a ceremony held to recognize the mayor’s work in improving municipal services and supporting development projects in Borama.
Diaspora representatives said they conducted an extended assessment after visiting Borama and concluded that Mayor Mahmoud Sheikh Ibrahim Muse had delivered the strongest performance compared with previous mayors who have led the district.
They described the recognition as based on their observations of ongoing development initiatives and changes taking place in the city.
Mayor Highlights Role of Citizens and Diaspora in Development
Speaking during the ceremony, Mayor Mahmoud Sheikh Ibrahim Muse said that the progress achieved in Borama was made possible through public contributions, particularly taxes collected from residents of the district.
He thanked the community for supporting local development efforts and emphasized that municipal projects represent the collective contribution of Borama residents.
The mayor also praised the Awdal diaspora for their long-standing role in supporting development across Borama and the wider Awdal region.
He highlighted the diaspora’s contributions to major milestones, including early peacebuilding efforts in Somaliland, the establishment of Amoud University, support for Borama’s water projects, and investments that have contributed to the city’s economic growth.
