Somaliland Concludes National Immunization Review Meeting to Expand Vaccination Services Nationwide.

BORAMA, Somaliland (Horn post)— The Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, in partnership with the World Health Organization, has concluded a three-day national review meeting in Borama focused on evaluating the progress of Somaliland’s national immunization program and strengthening vaccination services across the country.

The review meeting, held as part of a biannual national assessment process conducted every six months, brought together immunization officials from the national, regional and district levels, alongside Ministry of Health coordinators from across Somaliland.

Representatives from key international health partners, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and Save the Children, also participated in the discussions aimed at improving the country’s vaccination delivery systems.

Throughout the three-day conference, participants carried out a comprehensive evaluation of immunization service performance over the past six months, reviewing progress achieved, identifying operational challenges, and examining opportunities to further strengthen national vaccination programs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, health officials agreed on several priority action points designed to improve access and service quality nationwide.

The key recommendations included expanding vaccination outreach services to hard-to-reach communities, improving the quality and reliability of immunization data systems, increasing public awareness campaigns on the importance of childhood vaccination, and strengthening coordination between the Ministry of Health and international health partners.

Health officials said the recommendations and outcomes from the Borama meeting are expected to play a critical role in improving equitable access to quality immunization services and ensuring that children and communities across Somaliland receive consistent, safe and effective vaccination coverage.

The meeting reflects Somaliland’s continued commitment to strengthening public health systems and expanding preventive healthcare services through collaboration with global health organizations and development partners.
