JERUSALEM, Israel (Horn post) President of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, and the delegation he is leading on the third day of an official visit to Israel, held a significant meeting with Israeli Minister of Economy and Industry Nir Barkat, in a move aimed at deepening economic and development cooperation between Somaliland and Israel.
The high-level meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and diplomatic goodwill, focused on expanding bilateral economic relations and identifying new opportunities for investment, trade and industrial development between the Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel.
Minister Nir Barkat, whose portfolio oversees industrial policy, international trade, investment promotion, exports, small and medium enterprise development, and foreign direct investment, discussed a wide range of economic cooperation initiatives with the Somaliland delegation.
Among the key issues discussed were increasing Israeli private sector investment in Somaliland, enhancing the strategic role of Berbera Port and the Berbera Free Economic Zone, supporting the growth of small and medium-sized businesses, modernizing and expanding Somaliland’s livestock export sector, strengthening agricultural production, and building partnerships in innovation, technology and the modern digital economy.
President Irro and members of his delegation presented detailed briefings on Somaliland’s growing investment potential, expanding trade opportunities and the country’s abundant natural resources, highlighting Somaliland as an emerging economic gateway in the Horn of Africa.
Both sides also exchanged views on creating a more attractive business environment capable of drawing new international investment while strengthening mutually beneficial economic cooperation that supports sustainable development and prosperity for both nations and their people.
The meeting forms part of Somaliland’s broader diplomatic efforts to establish a strategic partnership with Israel built on economic development, trade expansion, investment cooperation and knowledge exchange, opening new opportunities that further strengthen the rapidly growing relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
The ongoing visit is increasingly being viewed as a landmark moment in the evolution of Somaliland-Israel diplomatic relations, with both governments exploring long-term cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
