ADDIS ABABA (Horn post) Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe has highlighted the role of frontline construction workers in accelerating the capital’s corridor development projects, describing their efforts as central to the city’s ongoing urban transformation.
In a message shared on her official social media platforms, the mayor said she joined workers on active construction sites to share meals with them as part of encouraging a “24/7 work culture” aimed at fast-tracking key infrastructure projects across the city.
According to the mayor, workers are currently engaged at multiple sites, including Kazanchis Children’s World, a sports park, and a new aquarium, as well as along major development corridors stretching from Ureal to Bole VIP, from the British Embassy (22 area) to Bole Friendship Hotel, and from water development zones to areas around Rwanda in Bole.
“These workers are hustling day and night to accelerate the corridor development of our city,” the mayor said, praising their dedication and resilience.
Contribution to urban development
Mayor Adanech expressed appreciation for what she described as the workers’ “patriotism, knowledge, and energy,” noting that their contribution extends beyond individual projects to the broader development of Addis Ababa.
She added that the city administration recognizes the importance of maintaining morale among workers who are operating under demanding schedules, particularly as large-scale urban renewal projects continue simultaneously in several parts of the capital.
Investors acknowledged
The mayor also extended gratitude to private investors involved in the corridor development initiatives, acknowledging their participation in supporting workers and engaging directly with project sites.
“On behalf of myself and the city administration, I would like to thank the investors who are benefiting from the development of the city and who have joined in encouraging and sharing meals with these strong workers,” she said.
Ongoing projects
Addis Ababa’s corridor development program is a flagship urban initiative aimed at upgrading transport links, public spaces, and commercial zones, while improving mobility and aesthetics across the capital. City officials say the projects are designed to support long-term economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents, though implementation continues amid tight timelines and intensive construction schedules.
