Somaliland President Calls for International Recognition and Investment at Davos Forum.
Davos (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), currently attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, has issued a strong global appeal calling for international recognition and increased investment in Somaliland.
In a wide-ranging interview with renowned journalist John Defterios, President Cirro urged global leaders and international investors attending the annual Davos summit to reassess Somaliland’s role on the global stage. He emphasized that Somaliland has enjoyed more than three decades of sustained peace, democratic governance, security, and stability in a region frequently affected by conflict.
President Cirro described Somaliland as a strategic gateway linking Africa, the Middle East, and major global trade routes. He outlined the country’s vast investment opportunities, highlighting key sectors such as livestock, agriculture, fisheries, mineral resources, and hydrocarbons.
The leader of Somaliland made it clear that his government is not seeking foreign aid, but rather mutually beneficial partnerships. He stressed that Somaliland offers political stability, security, rule of law, and legal certainty—qualities that remain rare in the volatile Horn of Africa region.
President Cirro also warmly welcomed Israel’s recognition of the Republic of Somaliland, expressing gratitude to the Israeli government for what he described as a courageous and principled decision. He called on other nations to follow Israel’s example and acknowledge the political realities on the ground in the Horn of Africa.
Highlighting growing regional cooperation, the President noted Somaliland’s provision of Red Sea trade corridor access to Ethiopia and ongoing efforts to enhance cross-border connectivity in trade, energy, and the movement of goods.
“We are not here to ask for aid. We are here to present partnerships built on peace, democracy, and shared opportunities,” President Cirro stated.
In conclusion, President Cirro appealed to the international community to reward Somaliland’s long-standing peace and stability with full international recognition, enabling the country to fully participate in the global economy and international relations.
“Together, let us turn commitments into progress, potential into lasting prosperity, and partnership into a legacy for history,” the President concluded.
