HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn Post) – The Somaliland Quality Control Commission (SQCC) has reaffirmed that all medicines, food products, health-related goods and consumer products entering Somaliland undergo mandatory laboratory testing to ensure their safety, quality and compliance with national standards.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission said there are no pharmaceutical products, food items or other regulated goods imported into Somaliland without first passing through the National Laboratory, where they are subjected to comprehensive scientific testing and quality verification procedures.
The commission emphasized that the same regulations apply to products manufactured within Somaliland, noting that locally produced medicines, food products and consumer goods must also comply with established inspection, testing and certification requirements before reaching the market.
According to the SQCC, the agency is legally mandated to oversee and safeguard the quality of all products imported into or manufactured within Somaliland. The National Laboratory conducts rigorous examinations to assess product safety, effectiveness and conformity with national quality standards.
The commission said the measures are designed to protect public health, strengthen consumer confidence and ensure that products available in Somaliland meet the required safety and quality benchmarks.
Officials reiterated that no medicine, food product or other regulated commodity is permitted to enter the domestic market without undergoing the commission’s inspection and quality assurance procedures.
