TIVAT, Montenegro — (Horn post) European Union leaders and Western Balkans partners gathered in Tivat on Saturday for the EU-Western Balkans Summit, emphasizing that the bloc’s enlargement process is moving from discussion to implementation amid renewed momentum for regional integration.
Officials attending the summit said the meeting marked a significant turning point in EU relations with the Western Balkans, highlighting concrete steps toward membership rather than continued debate over future expansion.
“Today’s EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat is different,” leaders said in a statement. “We are no longer only talking about enlargement. We are doing it.”
The summit comes as the European Union seeks to accelerate accession efforts for Western Balkan countries, strengthen regional cooperation and address geopolitical challenges across Southeast Europe.
Leaders stressed that deeper integration of the Western Balkans remains a strategic priority for the EU, with renewed commitments to reforms, economic development and closer political cooperation.
The gathering in Tivat underscored growing optimism that the enlargement agenda is entering a more active phase after years of slow progress.
