HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn Post) — Somaliland politician Osman Dubbe has called on Somaliland citizens to safeguard national unity and avoid inflammatory exchanges on social media, warning that internal divisions could undermine ongoing efforts to secure international recognition.
Dubbe made the remarks after meeting with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro on Friday evening, emphasizing the importance of presenting a united front as the government advances diplomatic initiatives aimed at gaining recognition for Somaliland.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Dubbe urged the public to support the president’s diplomatic efforts and reduce rhetoric that deepens political and social divisions.
“We should stand together and demonstrate organized support for the president’s efforts and commitments toward Somaliland’s recognition,” Dubbe said. “The divisive language and hostile exchanges taking place among our people should be reduced. If such rhetoric were translated and viewed internationally, it could hinder recognition opportunities that may be within reach.”
The politician stressed that national cohesion remains critical as Somaliland seeks broader international engagement and recognition of its self-declared independence.
Dubbe also said his recent discussions with President Irro had left him optimistic about Somaliland’s future and the progress being made on key national priorities.
“Better days are coming,” he wrote, expressing confidence in the country’s political and diplomatic trajectory.
His comments come amid heightened public debate on social media and growing attention to Somaliland’s diplomatic outreach and international recognition campaign.
