New U.S. Strikes Near Strait of Hormuz, Iran Responds Calls Action “Major Violation”

TEHRAN, Iran — (Horn post) Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned recent U.S. air and naval strikes near its southern coast, calling them a “serious violation” of a ceasefire and accusing Washington of escalating tensions in the Gulf region.

The remarks followed a statement by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which said it carried out what it described as “defensive strikes” targeting Iranian missile sites and fast boats near Bandar Abbas and the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the operations were intended to protect U.S. forces from perceived threats, including vessels allegedly preparing to deploy mines.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejected the justification, saying the strikes violated Article 2(4) of the U.N. Charter and a ceasefire agreement referenced as 19 Farvardin 1405, warning that Washington would bear responsibility for any consequences.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) separately claimed it had downed a U.S. MQ-9 drone and fired on other aircraft, including an RQ-4 and an F-35, though it did not provide evidence or specific details of the engagements.

Tensions between the two countries have continued to rise amid ongoing military activity in the Gulf region and stalled diplomatic efforts.
